Take Out the Guess-Work While Saving Time, Money and Energy

I found Nourishing Traditions in 2002 while pregnant with my first child and began my traditional foods journey. I started CookingTF in 2005 when I realized that while there were books in the market showing the Traditional Foods way of eating, the available resources weren’t child friendly. They were long on content and short on practical application. Books containing all the knowledge in the world don’t help you if they don’t show you how to put it into practice. No resources translated a traditional foods diet into a larger lifestyle or gave clear help for feeding children.

I began a recipe blog in 2005 and in 2007 that blog grew into the Classic Menu Mailer and Recipe Archive. In 2012 we added the Budget Menu Mailer to help those consuming more grains and beans and less meat than contained in the Classic Menu Mailer. Now in our fifth year, our Menu Mailer is the longest-running on the market.

I fed my children a traditional foods diet from the beginning. They were toddlers when I launched CookingTF almost seven years ago. Foods that contain exotic ingredients don’t cut it with my kids, and I know it won’t cut it with your kids, either! My budget couldn’t handle it and yours may not, either. No one likes having their hard work eyeballed and refused by a suspicious husband and kids. I didn’t like having failures when I would cook meals from other cookbooks and have my kids turn their noses up because it didn’t look familiar or it contained strange flavor combinations. Some nights, my garbage disposal ate more than my kids!

My Menu Mailers contain meals that your family will recognize and love. I have turned everything from sloppy joes to meatballs (here or here), roast chicken to chicken nuggets and even french fries into meals that are nutrient dense, look good and taste great. And many meals even have hidden veggies to boot.

I understand what it is like to be a beginner at Traditional Foods with no local help or support. I also understand what is it like to face major dietary changes due to food allergies, not even knowing where to start or what to fix for the next meal. I’ve faced a long list of foods to eliminate and I have healed mine and my children’s guts. I know what it is like to stick to a strict budget that seems impossibly low when your ideal is grass-fed meats and raw dairy. We’ve stayed on a traditional foods diet through major upheavals including job loss and severe illness. I’ve successfully navigated the waters, and I want to help you learn to feed your family nourishing foods, even if you are inexperienced and on a tight budget.

Don’t know how to cook? It doesn’t matter. I’ll teach you. Step by step, I walk you through a whole week of dinners in each mailer with clear, step-by-step instructions. You can ask questions on our forum and get help from many experienced traditional foodists who share your same passion. No matter where you are on your journey, what your budget looks like or what resources are available to you, we want to help you pick the best choices for your family.
